What's New in Children's Literature and How to Use It In Your Program
Learn about the best books published for children in the past year, and how to use it with your readers. I will share the quality books that have worked best with readers and share strategies so that you can use these new books and similar old favorites immediately. What's New in Children's Books
Children's literature is better than ever, but many children's books and language arts seminars discuss the same familiar titles. Not so with this workshop. I will share the best new children's books and share highly practical strategies for using this literature in all areas of your curriculum. Participants will learn of outstanding instructional strategies to help students get the most out of the new books without destroying the pleasure of reading. Many of the newly published titles will be available for participants to personally review, and participants will receive booklists that will be invaluable in planning instruction.
Increasing Student Learning with Children's Books
Children's literature can be central to all learning. This workshop provides the rationale and practical strategies and materials to help teachers integrate children's literature into all areas of the elementary school curriculum. Participants will learn how to develop motivating and worthwhile learning activities for their own favorite books as well as ideas and lessons for popular, recent titles. The focus in this session is how to develop relevant, real, and motivating lessons to teach what is already a part of the curriculum with the best of children's books.
Sharing Your Good Ideas:
Strategies for Workshops and Presentations
Participants will learn how to effectively share their ideas with teachers during a presentation or workshop. This session will be based upon what the research indicates and what teachers say is effective in a workshop. Strategies and experiences for effective workshops and presentations will be described and modeled. Participants will learn and experience strategies that they can use and/or adapt as they share their good ideas with teachers in their own school districts or facilitate workshops for their colleagues. Participants will receive an extensive handout supporting the workshop ideas that can be adapted for use in their presentations.
