Wild About Books by Judy Sierra
Illustrated by Marc Brown
Knopf, 2004 32p. (gr. K-4)
The animals in the zoos are introduced to the books, and they are go wild reading and writing.
Idea
Readers can identify books they have read that they were "wild" about, the books they think everyone should read. To focus their titles, ask them for books that are:
- Wonderful
- Interesting
- Lovely
- Divine
They can write the title and author of book on a picture of an animal that might enjoy reading it. Make copies of school photos to paste onto the animals' heads, and display the creatures on a bulletin board entitled, "We're Wild About Reading!"
Idea
Readers can identify books they have read that they were "wild" about, the books they think everyone should read. To focus their titles, ask them for books that are:
- Hippopotamus - Hurty Feelings by Helen Lester
- Giraffe - Carlo and the Really Nice Librarian by Jessica Spanyol
- Moose - Moosekitos by Margie Palatini
Idea
Readers can write a thank-you note from a particular animal, thanking the librarian for recommending the book they enjoyed. Remind your readers to be specific about why the animal liked the recommended book. Students can design stationery that would be appropriate for the specific animal to use for a thank-you.
In addition to my annual listing of books set in different state, strategies for the following books are also included in the November/December issue
