Book
Zelda and Ivy One Christmas by Laura McGee Kvasnosky.
Candlewick, 2000 (gr. K-3)
Zelda and Ivy receive just what they wanted from the Christmas elf, and give the perfect gift in return.
Idea
You can make a great gift for your students that will encourage them to read all year long. Print images of book covers from an on-line bookstore, or cut out covers of books featured in publishers' catalogs.
Select four or five books that are appropriate for each of your readers. Glue the pictures to poster board in a bookmark strip, angling the covers for interest. After the glue has dried, laminate the bookmark or cover it with clear packing tape. Thread a piece of yarn through a hole punched at the top of the bookmark to make a tassel.
This bookmark is not only a gift to mark the place in the book, but you have recommended good books for your readers, as well.
Strategies for the following books are also included in the November/December issue
A special feature of this issue is a listing of the books that are set in the state where you live.
